The Books – A Cold Freezin’ Night

Listening to a an old Portishead mixtape they put out right before an I’ll Be Your Mirror event they curated in 2011, I came across a track by The Books I totally missed out on.

“A Cold Freezin’ Night” is comprised of scraps of two children talking into tapes, a boy and a girl, and we daresay it expresses burgeoning feminist anger—the boy, untethered and proud, screams about “a cold freezin’ night” triumphantly, while the girl, miserable with rage, sighs, I wish I was a boy, in addition to delivering a short uninhibited treatise Valerie Solanas could totally get down with. – thefader.com

The track premiered on Fader back in 2010, but is still available for download. Oh, Boy.

Adrian Utley’s Synth Collection

Source visited Portishead’s Adrian Utley in his home studio to get his reactions to the Arturia MiniBrute analog synth. While we were there Adrian gave us a tour of his analogue synth collection (the stuff that was there, that is!) – SourceDistributionTV
